International Project: Worker Exposure Assessments Overseas
FACS worked with a leading multinational athletic equipment manufacturer on a special project to evaluate worker exposures to chemical hazards in contract factories. The factories produced a variety of different manufactured products including athletic wear and equipment (balls / clubs). FACS and the client project team travelled to factories in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe to conduct an initial assessment of potential occupational chemical exposures. Using the gathered information on employees and work processes FACS developed an appropriate exposure assessment strategy to gather quantitative exposure data. Chemicals sampled included but weren’t limited to: industrial solvents, isocyanates, particulates, and acid gases. The resulting exposure data was then used to educate the contract factories on exposure issues, make recommendations for control measures, and provide the client with quantitative data for decision making and EHS auditing purposes.
